Where to Auscultate
The patient was supine during auscultation.
Description
On this page, we present a mid-systolic click, usually created by the sudden prolapse of the mitral valve leaflet into the left atrium. The anatomy video illustrates this mitral valve posterior leaflet prolapse.
Listen to the recording of a mid-systolic click recorded at the apex. The first and second heart sounds are normal, and no murmur is present.
In some cases, a late systolic murmur follow the mid-systolic click.

Play the animation and observe that the mitral valve posterior leaflet prolapses. The mid-systolic click is produced by the sudden prolapse of the leaflet.
