Bronchial breath sounds are characterized by their hollow, tubular quality and higher pitch compared to vesicular. These noises can be heard during auscultation over the trachea area (considered normal) with a distinct pause between inspiration and expiration cycles of 1:3 ratio.

Patient position
The patient's position should be seated.

Auscultation Tips

Features:Hollow, tubular sounds that are higher-pitched. Considered abnormal if heard over the peripheral lung fields. Distinct pause in the sound between inspiration and expiration. Inspiration to expiration ratio of 1:2 or 1:3
