We can also visualize the IVC in the transverse view, as we see the hepatic veins draining into the IVC, in this case just before its going into the right atrium. This can be helpful to assess anatomy, although it is a little bit tougher to get a full picture of the hydration status of the IVC.
Here we see a bit longer clip where we are again tracing those hepatic veins into the IVC, into the right atrium, and up into a subxyphoid view of the heart. This is a good way to learn the anatomy and will lead us into interrogation of the heart in the subxyphoid view.
